To Austria!
We're hopping on an overnight train from Frankfurt to spend Easter with Ruth's friends in Vienna. Train travel through Europe is amazingly cheap- if you book ahead- and efficient.

Luxembourg
Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in Europe, boarders Germany to the west, Belgium to the East, and France to the north. It is the only country in the world ruled by a Duke.
e-Bay global headcourters are located in Luxembourg.
The country has 3 official languages- German, French, and Luxembourgish- a mix of German and French.
Luxembourg is one of the wealthiest countries in the world based on GDP.

Spangdahlem Air Base
Ruth and I were hiking through the woods when the national anthem sounded this afternoon, (The German and American national anthems play on loudspeaker at 6am, 5pm and 9pm each day, and when they do, cars park and people stand with their hands on their hearts to show respect.) and when it did, she commented on what it would be like if the world voluntarily stood still for God as they do for the anthem here in Spangdahlem. Think about it. Everyone everywhere-from the subways of New York City to the farm fields of northern Minnesota- all standing still to show respect for their creator.

Still Living
I'm not one to keep still for long. Like last night, when my friend put in a movie, I watched it while writing postcards and reading a novel and checking e-mail. I cannot spend an afternoon in a coffee shop unless it's spent writing an essay or planning an event or doing something "productive." Although we all have work to do, life sometimes requires periods of rest, and that's what I've been learning from my wise friends- the art of "still living." They keep telling me to just sit and relax and I'm learning it's okay to drive through vineyards, hike through mountains, and exploring ancient castles even if I don't get tangible results doing so.

Autobahn
Crazy, crazy, crazy drivers! With a "recommended" speed limit of 80 mph driving on the autobahn often feels like driving on a racetrack. It's a blast!
Pume River
Germany's countryside closely resembles that of northern Minnesota, although the climate is quite a bit milder. Today we hiked along the Pume River in Bitburg and it felt much like hiking along similar rivers near Duluth.
Old Military Housing
At the Bitburg Air Base we saw rows of old military buildings. It was kind of freaky to think how Hitler's troops occupied them in the past and our troops live there now.
